INSCRIPT on LINUX to alka Irani and others

Dear Alka ji,
As discussed earlier, I want to deal with the following subject during my visit on 14 th
Concept
The key-board layout for Indian Languages, known as INSCRIPT layout is superior to many other layouts and in fact adopted as a standard by BIS as early as in 1991. GoI in their own wisdom kept it sidelined, for several years, till, by chance LINUX system managers started appreciating for its simplicity and finally it was adopted for Unicode. Thus now this layout has become internet compatible too. Though GoI is yet to accord any patronage to it, I for one look at it as an opportunity to our millions of poverty-stuck children who for various reasons will not or may not like to learn our languages through English or Roman script.
With this reason in mind I thought it a good idea to take 2 messages to a prime Institute like yours
1)      That leaning this method is so simple that it can excite the students by its shear simplicity and quick-learning., thus giving them a useful tool almost instantaneously.
2)      Its potential to unify the knowledge-base from all Indian languages.

For your reading I am giving the following URLs for ciculating.  Pl let me know your personal comments on them.

(Salok Sehshritee Guru Nanak Dev, GGS. 1353-7).
Parrih Pusok Sandhhiaa Baadhan ||
You study the scriptures, say your prayers and argue;

Sil Poojas Bagul Samaadhhan ||
You worship stones and sit like a crane, pretending to meditate.

Mukh Jhooth Bibhookhan Saaran ||
You speak lies and well-ornamented falsehood,

Thraipaal Thihaal Bichaaran ||
And recite your daily prayers three times a day.

Gal Maalaa Thilak Lilaattan ||
The mala is around your neck, and the sacred tilak mark is on your forehead.

Dhue Dhhothee Basathr Kapaattan ||
You wear two loin cloths, and keep your head covered.

Jo Jaanas Brehaman Karaman ||
If you know God and the nature of karma,

Sabh Fokatt Nisachai Karaman ||
You know that all these rituals and beliefs are useless.

Kahu Naanak Nisacha Dhhiyaavai ||
Says Nanak, meditate on the Lord with faith.

Bin Sathigur Baatt N Paavai ||1||
Without the True Guru, no one finds the Way. ||1||

Nihafalan Thasy Janamasy Jaavadh Breham N Bindhathae ||
The mortal's life is fruitless, as long as he does not know God.

Saagaran Sansaarasy Gur Parasaadhee Tharehi Kae ||
Only a few, by Guru's Grace, cross over the world-ocean.

Karan Kaaran Samarathh Hai Kahu Naanak Beechaar ||
The Creator, the Cause of causes, is All-powerful. Thus speaks Nanak, after deep deliberation.

Kaaran Karathae Vas Hai Jin Kal Rakhee Dhhaar ||2||
The Creation is under the control of the Creator. By His Power, He sustains and supports it. ||2||

Jog Sabadhan Giaan Sabadhan Baedh Sabadhan Th Braahamaneh ||
The Shabad is Yoga, the Shabad is spiritual wisdom; the Shabad is the Vedas for the Brahmin.

Khyathree Sabadhan Soor Sabadhan Soodhr Sabadhan Paraa Kiratheh ||
The Shabad is heroic bravery for the Khshaatriya; the Shabad is service to others for the Soodra.

Sarab Sabadhan Th Eaek Sabadhan Jae Ko Jaanas Bhaeo ||
The Shabad for all is the Shabad, the Word of the One God, for one who knows this secret.

Naanak Thaa Ko Dhaas Hai Soee Niranjan Dhaeo ||3||
Nanak is the slave of the Divine, Immaculate Lord. ||3||

Eaek Kirasaan Th Sarab Dhaevaa Dhaev Dhaevaa Th Aathameh ||
The One Lord is the Divinity of all divinities. He is the Divinity of the soul.

Aathaman Sree Baasvadhaevasy Jae Koee Jaanas Bhaev ||
Nanak is the slave of that one who knows the Secrets of the soul and the Supreme Lord God.

Naanak Thaa Ko Dhaas Hai Soee Niranjan Dhaev ||4||
He is the Divine Immaculate Lord Himself. ||4||

Bhagat Kabir Ji reinforces as:-

(Raag Parbhati Bhagat Kabir, GGS. 1349-11.
Alahu Eaek Maseeth Basath Hai Avar Mulakh Kis Kaeraa ||
If the Lord Allah lives only in the mosque, then to whom does the rest of the world belong?

Hindhoo Moorath Naam Nivaasee Dhuh Mehi Thath N Haeraa ||1||
According to the Hindus, the Lord's Name abides in the idol, but there is no truth in either of these claims. ||1||

Aleh Raam Jeevo Thaerae Naaee ||
O Allah, O Raam, I live by Your Name.

Thoo Kar Miharaamath Saaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
Please show mercy to me, O Master. ||1||Pause||

Dhakhan Dhaes Haree Kaa Baasaa Pashhim Aleh Mukaamaa ||
The God of the Hindus lives in the southern lands, and the God of the Muslims lives in the west.

Dhil Mehi Khoj Dhilai Dhil Khojahu Eaehee Thour Mukaamaa ||2||
So search in your heart - look deep into your heart of hearts; this is the home and the place where God lives. ||2||

Brehaman Giaas Karehi Choubeesaa Kaajee Meh Ramajaanaa ||
The Brahmins observe twenty-four fasts during the year, and the Muslims fast during the month of Ramadaan.

Giaareh Maas Paas Kai Raakhae Eaekai Maahi Nidhhaanaa ||3||
The Muslims set aside eleven months, and claim that the treasure is only in the one month. ||3||

Kehaa Ouddeesae Majan Keeaa Kiaa Maseeth Sir Naaneaen ||
What is the use of bathing at Orissa? Why do the Muslims bow their heads in the mosque?

Dhil Mehi Kapatt Nivaaj Gujaarai Kiaa Haj Kaabai Jaaneaen ||4||
If someone has deception in his heart, what good is it for him to utter prayers? And what good is it for him to go on pilgrimage to Mecca? ||4||

Eaethae Aourath Maradhaa Saajae Eae Sabh Roop Thumhaarae ||
You fashioned all these men and women, Lord. All these are Your Forms.

Kabeer Poongaraa Raam Aleh Kaa Sabh Gur Peer Hamaarae ||5||
Kabeer is the child of God, Allah, Raam. All the Gurus and prophets are mine. ||5||

Kehath Kabeer Sunahu Nar Naravai Parahu Eaek Kee Saranaa ||
Says Kabeer, listen, O men and women: seek the Sanctuary of the One.

Kaeval Naam Japahu Rae Praanee Thab Hee Nihachai Tharanaa ||6||2||
Chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O mortals, and you shall surely be carried across. ||6||2||
.......
(Raag Parbhati Bhagat Kabir, GGS. 1349-19).
Aval Aleh Noor Oupaaeiaa Kudharath Kae Sabh Bandhae ||
First, Allah created the Light; then, by His Creative Power, He made all mortal beings

Eaek Noor Thae Sabh Jag Oupajiaa Koun Bhalae Ko Mandhae ||1||
From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, and who is bad? ||1||

(GGS - Guru Granth Sahib.)

Guru Ram Dass Ji, 4th Sikh Guru sums up as follows for the welfare of Humanity:-

Raag Asa: Guru Ram Dass, GGS. page 11- line 1.
Thoon Ghatt Ghatt Anthar Sarab Niranthar Jee Har Eaeko Purakh Samaanaa ||
You are constant in each and every heart, and in all things. O Dear Lord, you are the One.

Gurbani is an outcome of spiritual experiences of Indians and helps to unite us to the past spiritual traditions and takes us forward to meet the challenges of the emerging/growing society.
